Avoid Mistakes for Lower Scores

Avoid mistakes?

No S _ _ T, Sherlock!

Go ahead and say it. Let's take a look at the profile of the "Average" golfer, his scoring tendencies, and see how mistakes impact his scores.  Mr. 15 - 19 handicap averages 90, that is for the rounds used in his handicap calculation (the best 10 of his most recent 20 Slope Adjusted Differentials).

On the plus side of his performance, he makes five pars each round and throws in an occasional birdie (every 2.5 rounds).  These good holes obviously represent some talent, and enough good shots to keep him coming back.  He has a solid game and we often refer to him as a "Bogey Golfer."  This moniker is only accurate however as it refers to his total score.  If he were able to limit his bad holes to no worse than bogey, he would actually be a significantly better player.  Six shots better, to be exact, which would find his handicap in the 10 - 14 range.  These six shots come in the form of four double-bogeys, and one triple, each round.  Reduce these five bad holes to bogeys and presto six shots saved. more...

Ingram scores major accomplishment

Derek Ingram has recently been awarded the Manitoba Professional Golfers Associations Teacher of the Year Award for a record fifth time. Derek was presented with the prestigious award at the Manitoba PGA Merchandise Show in October. Ingram, also a winner of the 2003 Canadian PGA Teacher of the year award, was both appreciative and excited about winning the award, which is voted on by golf professionals across Manitoba. "With so many excellent coaches and golf instructors across the province, they could just as easily have won this award. I feel extremely honored and privileged", said Ingram. more...

The Dreaded Three Foot Putt
Golf Tip by Derek Ingram

Most people fear the 3-foot putt or all short putts mainly because, as you get closer to the hole, the expectation to make the putt increases. Sometimes people have a fear of missing and then looking bad in front of their playing partners. They are just hoping to hear their favourite words "Gimme" or "Pick it up."

Have no fear!

To be an excellent short putter, you need two things: Good Technique and A Pre-Putt Routine. more...
